Here is the scenario: you are a singer, songwriter, musicians, beat producer and you’ve just released a single.
Well, first of all, congratulations, so many artists actually don’t do shit, I am glad you are putting in the work.
Secondly, you probably have zero strategy for this.
If you are reading me on a daily basis, you may be aware that I recommend to release your single with a “21 days music release” strategy. So make sure to read it before that.
Now, I want to talk about a very special way of promoting your newly released song.
We also talked about influencers in the past, and indeed, it seems that it is a very requested topic by you guys so I want to make sure you have the right strategy.
Licensing? No licensing?
First and foremost, make sure your song is licensed. I always recommend my clients to license their song because you never know how it will be used and it is always good to have it licensed with ASCAP or BMI in order to collect royal Ts, even if it is not the goal of a single, in rare cases, it could be dramatic not to be licensed and distributed.
Prepare the pitch
You are no longer just an artist. In 2018, you are a business. Ok, a Musical Entrepreneur if you prefer. Whatever the title, you are doing business, as an independent musician, singer or band, you need to have a business mindset.
The pitch, it will be simple to write. It is also simple to distribute but not everybody is qualified to write the right thing.
Try something like this:
“Hey there, I am an independent artist and I started my journey _________ ago.
I love your content and as a creator myself, I understand that good royal-T free songs may be hard to find for your own content.
Therefore I am contacting you because I have just released a song that could totally be used as an intro/transition/ending to your vlog/post/video.
Here is the song : (link SOUNDCLOUD! NO SPOTIFY)
Let me know what you think so we can go from there!
Thank you for reading me and keep up the amazing work!
Who do I send that to?
You will go on YouTube, find every single influencer you can with 30,000 to 100,000 subscribers and send them this message either directly on YouTube or by sneaking on them on Instagram (I vividly recommend you to go from Instagram DMs!).
How long will it take?
You will literally sit there for hours (3 to 4 a day) and send DMs after DMs, until Instagram limits you from doing so for a few minutes/hours.
You will have more NOs and be left on “seen” than actual positive answers, but that’s part of the game.
It is all about patience.
What will be the outcome?
Whatever the time it will take, at some point, someone will contact you back and accept it. It may take days, once again, but that’s really part of the game.
What I suggest you to do is to be KIND and HUMBLE.
Remember that it is better to have your song featured in front of 134 people than 0.
